    Dr. Darren Sholar was born in Kenansville, NC and grew up in the Pin Hook community of Duplin county. He was taught the value of hard work and Christian values by his parents who were farmers. He attended Chinquapin elementary and graduated from East Duplin High School in 1984. After high school, Dr. Sholar played football at Chowan University where his organic chemistry professor, Phyllis Dewar, set him on the right path for academic success.
